Yevhen Konoplyanka stars as Sevilla beat Independiente Santa Fe
Sevilla won the Supercopa Euroamericana for the second successive season, beating Independiente Santa Fe 2-1 in Orlando.
11:06] The friendly, between the winners of the UEFA Europa League and the Copa Sudamericana -- the second tier continental competitions in Europe and South America -- is in its second year after Sevilla beat River Plate 1-0 to take the honours 12 months ago.
Yevhen Konoplyanka was the star of the show, and he put the Liga side in front on 10 minutes when firing in a right-footed shot from the edge of the area.
It was 2-0 just a minute later as Konoplyanka turned provider for Kevin Gameiro, who has had a €40 million price tag slapped on him by club president Jose Maria del Nido. Great interplay between Konoplyanka, new signing Joaquin Correa and Sergio Escudero finished with the Ukraine international teeing up Gameiro to slot home.
Sevilla were reduced to 10 men in the 28th minute when Nicolas Pareja was shown the red card for aiming a head-butt towards Osorio Botello in retaliation after he had been fouled from behind.
But the numbers were evened up in first-half stoppage time as Carlos Arboleda was sent off for Independiente after picking up a second yellow.
Jose Moya reduced the arrears for the Colombian side just after the hour, pouncing on a loose ball after goalkeeper David Soria had only parried a shot, but there was no way back into the match.
