FC Dallas beats New England Revolution to win U.S. Open Cup

FC Dallas won the 2016 U.S. Open Cup, beating the New England Revolution 4-2 in Dallas to earn a spot in the 2017-18 CONCACAF Champions League.

The game started well for New England when Juan Agudelo took a Gershon Koffie pass, turned and bent a nice shot past Dallas goalkeeper Chris Seitz to give the visitors an early 1-0 lead.

Dallas was back on level terms less than 10 minutes later, as Max Urruti buried a shot to the bottom right corner of the New England goal following an assist by Mauro Diaz.

The hosts would double the lead in the 40th minute through Matt Hedges, whose glancing header from another Diaz cross beat Brad Knighton.

Dallas padded its lead deep into first-half injury time from the penalty spot after Jose Goncalves pulled Hedges down in the area and Diaz converted from 12 yards out.

A midfield turnover by New England in the 62nd minute led to Urruit's second goal, as the former Portland Timbers' striker latched onto a through ball from Diaz, took three touches and fired a right-footed shot past Knighton.

Agudelo scored again in the 73rd minute after finding himself alone at the far post from a Teal Bunbury cross.

Dallas is still on track to potentially win a treble of United States' trophies if they can win Major League Soccer's Supporters' Shield and navigate the way to an MLS Cup title in the playoffs.
