The New York Cosmos claimed the NASL championship for the second straight season by beating the Indy Eleven 4-2 on penalties after a goalless 120 minutes on Sunday night.

Indy's Eamon Zayed hit the post in the second round of penalties, and goalkeeper Jon Busch then fired over the bar in the third round.

Ryan Richter, who was on the losing side the league's final last season while with the Ottawa Fury, then delivered the clinching kick to give the Cosmos their third title in four years.

Earlier, Indy had the best chance to score in the 70th minute when Sinisa Ubiparipovic put a through ball into the box for Don Smart, whose shot banged off the angle of the woodwork.
