Selangor moved up to second on the Malaysia Super League title after a 3-1 victory over Felda United at Selayang Stadium on Friday night.

Both teams had been knocked out of the Malaysia FA Cup after second-round defeats on Tuesday night, and were faced with a quick turnaround as they looked to bounce back.

All three of Selangor's goals came before half-time as the 33-time Malaysia Cup champions secured their second victory of the season to go with two draws and one loss.

The 4-3-3 formation of coach P. Maniam made immediate inroads against a dangerous Felda United side, who had lost at home to Johor Darul Ta'zim in the midweek FA Cup.

And they grabbed the lead in the 29th minute when Romanian import Victor Stelian Asfafei scored his second league goal of the season.

Felda were keen to hit back immediately, and Mohd Nik's side, powered by their Argentine strikeforce, had a couple of chances to equalise.

But their hopes were in tatters by the break as the home side produced two goals in two minutes late in the first half.

First, Mohd Raimi Md Nor doubled their advantage in the 43rd minute before Mohd Rizal Fahmi made in 3-0 in first-half injury time after the assist from Brazilian import Juliano Mineiro.

The second half saw a less potent display from the Red Giants, but they were always in control against a Felda side who finished second in the 2016 MSL.

The Fighters did grab a late consolation from Argentine forward Lucas Cano in the 84th minute. But there was nothing they could do to prevent a third defeat in five matches, to sit in 10th place on the 12-team table.

Selangor, who have performed above expectations this year after a troubled preseason, will travel to Kelantan on Feb. 25 for their next MSL game.

Felda are away to Singapore's Tampines Rovers in the AFC Cup on Feb. 21 before hosting Perak in the MSL on Feb. 25.
