Panama's Tauro FC shock FC Dallas, Club America smash Saprissa
Tauro FC shocked Major League Soccer's FC Dallas on Wednesday, winning the first leg of their CONCACAF Champions League round-of-16 match 1-0 in Panama City.
FCD had numerous chances to break the deadlock in the first half, but failed to find their way past a determined Oscar McFarlane in the Tauro goal.
The MLS side then paid when Edwin Aguilar latched onto a Jesus Gonzalez corner in the 57th minute to nab the hosts a 1-0 lead heading into next week's second leg in Texas.
"We had the game controlled going into the locker room," Dallas coach Oscar Pareja said. "In the second half, Tauro stood up well and we couldn't find more ideas. I think we wore ourselves out while the game went on.
"They had a chance on a set piece in which we know is a dangerous, effective play from them. Aguilar came to the first post, we failed in marking him and they got the goal."
In Wednesday's other CCL matches, Club America made light work of Deportivo Saprissa -- winning 5-1 in San Juan de Tibas.
Cecilio Dominguez and Mateus Uribe both bagged a brace for the Liga MX side.
Meanwhile, Ignacio Rivero handed Tijuana a 1-0 away win over CD Motagua.
