The game was merely a battle for third place in Group B, with both Costa Rica and Haiti having already defeated both Bermuda and Nicaragua. Costa Rica and Haiti were set to play later Monday night, with the Ticos needing a win or a draw to secure first place.

Simmons opened the scoring in the 60th minute, and Wells added to the lead in the 71st. Bermuda was appearing in the Gold Cup for the first time.
