Stunning long-range strike from Bright helps Chelsea win Community Shield trophy

A stunning long-range strike from England's Millie Bright helped Chelsea to a 2-0 win over 10-woman Manchester City in the Community Shield on Saturday. 

Scotland's Erin Cuthbert added the second on 92 minutes to ensure the 2019-20 Women's Super League champions walked away with the win in the first ever women's Community Shield to be held in Wembley.

The first-half was a tit-for-tat affair with both sides failing to capitalise on big chances. 

Chelsea's star striker and Matildas captain Sam Kerr had a frustrating day in front of goal, hitting the side netting and missing several good chances.

City came close in the first-half with Georgia Stanway forcing a save from goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger with a long-range effort and new signing Chloe Kelly striking the outside of the left post.

The defining moment of the game came in the second-half when Jill Scott was sent off for a second yellow card on 62 minutes after a late challenge on Ji So-yun.

It took Chelsea just four minutes to capitalise when Bright struck a ball from 25 yards out past City's Golden Glove winning keeper Ellie Roebuck and into the top-right corner. 

Cuthbert ensured Chelsea's victory -- to add to their WSL title and Continental Cup win -- when a Maren Mjelde cross was deflected to Cuthbert on 92 minutes and she buried the strike. 

"Obviously, scoring at Wembley is unbelievable," Bright said after the game. 

"I think we were confident coming into the game. The game was pretty tense."
