North Carolina Courage defeat Portland Thorns 2-0
Tyler Lussi scored a goal five minutes in and assisted on another to lead the North Carolina Courage to a 2-0 victory over the Portland Thorns on Saturday at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina.
Lussi also set up Haley Hopkins' header in the 35th minute, padding North Carolina's lead. Ashley Sanchez provided an assist for the Courage, while goalkeeper Casey Murphy made four saves to maintain the clean sheet.
Lussi put the Courage on the board with a right-footed shot from the center of the box following a corner kick from Sanchez.
Sophia Smith and Morgan Weaver led the way for Portland, while Thorns goalie Shelby Hogan made one save.
