Dias opened the scoring for Portland in the 56th minute with a right-footed shot from the right side of the box, assisted by Hina Sugita. Olivia Moultrie doubled the Thorns' lead in the 68th minute with a goal from a difficult angle on the right, assisted by Janine Beckie.
Goalkeeper Shelby Hogan made multiple saves to keep Houston off the scoreboard. Diana Ordóñez's shot off the post early in the second half helped preserve Hogan's clean sheet.
