Ouleymata Sarr's leaping header wins it for Washington Spirit

Ouleymata Sarr scores Washington Spirit's third goal to seal a 3-2 win over Seattle Reign.

The Washington Spirit secured a narrow victory over the Seattle Reign FC 3-2 on Monday at Audi Field. Midfielder Croix Bethune led the charge for the Spirit, scoring one goal and providing an assist.

Bethune's contributions were complemented by midfielder Andi Sullivan, who converted a penalty kick in the first half, and forward Ouleymata Sarr, who scored with a header from close range. Goalkeeper Aubrey Kingsbury made several crucial saves to maintain their lead.

The game began with Bethune scoring in the 21st minute with a left-footed shot from the center of the box. The Spirit doubled their lead when Sullivan converted a penalty after forward Trinity Rodman was fouled inside the area by goalkeeper Laurel Ivory, who received a yellow card for her challenge. Sarr added another goal just before halftime with an impressive header assisted by Bethune.

Seattle Reign responded quickly after Sarr's goal as forward Veronica Latsko headed home from close range following defender Phoebe McClernon's cross. In an attempt to turn things around in the second half, Seattle made multiple substitutions, including midfielder Nikki Stanton replacing Olivia Van der Jagt and forward Jordyn Huitema coming on for Angharad James.

Washington continued to press forward but failed to extend its lead further due to some fine saves by Ivory and missed opportunities from Rodman and Wiesner. However, Emeri Adames gave Seattle hope late into stoppage time when she found space inside Washington's box and slotted past Kingsbury reducing deficit back down again making it 3-2 which ultimately ended up being final scoreline.
