Kate Wiesner's clever finish makes it 1-0 Spirit

The Washington Spirit, with a goal from Kate Wiesner, secured a 1-0 victory over the Utah Royals at America First Field on Saturday. The Spirit are 10-0-3 (33 points) while the Royals fall to 1-2-11 (5 points).

Wiesner scored in the 26th minute with a right-footed shot from outside the box that found its way into the left corner following a corner kick. It was her first goal of the season.

Trinity Rodman and Ouleymata Sarr were active for Washington but couldn't convert their chances. Rodman had several attempts saved or miss wide, while Sarr was stopped by goalkeeper from Mandy Haught, who made three saves.

Utah's Paige Monaghan hit the post in the first half.

Courtney Brown replaced Wiesner for Washington at halftime.

Despite late pressure from Utah -- including shots by Ally Sentnor and Lauren Flynn -- the Spirit got the shutout.
