Chicago Red Stars break NWSL attendance record

Playing at Wrigley Field, the Chicago Red Stars and Bay FC set a new NWSL attendance record with over 35,000 fans.

Meeting in the first-ever NWSL game played at historic Wrigley Field, Bay FC beat the Chicago Red Stars 2-1 on Saturday. The win improved Bay FC's record to 4-0-8 (12 points), while the Red Stars fell to 5-1-6 (16 points).

Kiki Pickett opened the scoring for Bay FC in the 25th minute with a shot from outside the box that beat goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher. Bay FC led 1-0 at the half.

Joelle Anderson doubled Bay's lead in the 79th minute with a close-range finish into the bottom-right corner. Penelope Hocking gave Chicago hope with a late goal in stoppage time, assisted by Shea Groom. But the home team, playing in the home stadium of Major Legue Baseball's Cubs, couldn't pull even.
