Temwa Chawinga's two goals help lead the Kansas City Current to a 5-2 victory over the Seattle Reign.


The Kansas City Current beat the Seattle Reign FC 5-2 at CPKC Stadium on Saturday. Temwa Chawinga scored twice to lead the Current to their eighth win of the season.

Chawinga's first goal came in the 28th minute, equalizing after Jordyn Huitema had put Seattle ahead in the 24th minute. Huitema put the Reign ahead again with her second goal before Lauren tied it up for Kansas City just before halftime with a shot from close range.

The second half belonged to Kansas City. Vanessa DiBernardo and Chawinga struck within two minutes of each other early on to give Kansas City a commanding lead. Lo'eau LaBonta piled on with a penalty conversion in the 67th minute.

With the win, Kansas City's record improved to 8-4-0 (28 points). Seattle fell to 2-1-9 (7 points).
