Gotham FC hold off Angel City for 2-1 victory

NJ/NY Gotham FC clipped Angel City FC on Saturday, winning 2-1 on the road at BMO Stadium. Rose Lavelle put Gotham ahead in the 16th minute with a shot from the center of the box to the top right corner, assisted by Crystal Dunn.

Gotham doubled their lead in the 40th minute when Delanie Sheehan scored from close range after an assist from Ella Stevens. 

The second half began with substitutions as Lynn Williams and Katie Stengel came on for Gotham while Megan Reid and Jasmyne Spencer replaced Gisele Thompson and Merritt Mathias respectively for Angel City. Mandy Freeman received a yellow card in the 67th minute -- one of three for Gotham FC in the match. Forward Claire Emslie converted a penalty kick just two minutes later to bring Angel City within a goal, but they would get no closer.
