North Carolina Courage edge Kansas City Current 2-1

The North Carolina Courage, behind goals from Cortnee Vine and Brianna Pinto, beat the Kansas City Current 2-1 at WakeMed Soccer Park on Sunday. The match saw a goalless first half before both teams found their scoring rhythm in the second period.

Kansas City (10-5-3) opened the scoring in the 62nd minute with a shot from Temwa Chawinga that found its way to the center of the goal. However, North Carolina (9-1-8) responded as Vine netted an equalizer just five minutes later with a shot assisted by Haley Hopkins.

Brianna Pinto sealed the victory for North Carolina in stoppage time with a shot from inside the box that landed in the bottom right corner. This win brings North Carolina's total points to 28 while Kansas City's remains at 35.

For Kansas City, Nichelle Prince and Vanessa DiBernardo were active offensively but couldn't convert their chances into goals. 

Up next: North Carolina faces Angel City FC on Sept. 1 at WakeMed Soccer Park. Kansas City will take on the Reign on Sept. 3.
