North Carolina Courage and Angel City FC draw 1-1 in dramatic finish
The North Carolina Courage, buoyed by a last-minute goal from Olivia Wingate, drew with Angel City FC 1-1 at WakeMed Soccer Park on Saturday.
Angel City's Christen Press broke the 0-0 deadlock in second-half stoppage time with a left-footed shot from the right side of the box, assisted by Katie Zelem. For North Carolina (12-3-9), Denise O'Sullivan provided a key assist to Wingate, whose right-footed shot found its way into the bottom left corner just three minutes after Press' goal.
For Press, it was her first NWSL goal in 28 months after missing more than two years because of an ACL injury that required four surgeries.
Goalkeeper Casey Murphy made three saves for North Carolina but couldn't keep out Press' late strike.
Up next: North Carolina faces host Bay FC on Saturday, Oct. 19. Angel City will next play host to Utah Royals FC on Sunday, Oct. 20.
