Caprice Dydasco's untimely goal helps send the Spirit to the NWSL semifinals

Caprice Dydasco accidently scores in her own goal to give the Washington Spirit a lead in extra time to help lead them to the NWSL semifinals.


The Washington Spirit beat Bay FC 2-1 in a quarterfinal matchup at Audi Field on Sunday. In the first-ever playoff matchup between the two, both teams were locked at 1-1 after regulation before an own goal by Bay FC's Caprice Dydasco in the first half of extra time sealed the victory for the Spirit. 

Tara McKeown was instrumental for Washington, scoring the equalizer in the 86th minute with a shot from outside the box. Ashley Hatch also contributed significantly with an assist and multiple attempts on target. Goalkeeper Aubrey Kingsbury made one save to help secure the win.

Bay FC took an initial lead through Asisat Oshoala's close-range finish in the 82nd minute, assisted by Penelope Hocking. 

The Spirit will next face the winner of the Gotham FC-Thorns quarterfinals in a semifinal next weekend.
