Jesus Ferreira tallies twice as FC Dallas downs Whitecaps

Jesus Ferreira scored a brace, including the game-winning goal in the 54th minute, as FC Dallas came from behind to beat the Vancouver Whitecaps 2-1 on Wednesday in a Western Conference match at Frisco, Texas.

Ferreira was the difference-maker, producing the deciding tally off a pass from Tsiki Ntsabeleng after the latter outworked Vancouver defender Ranko Veselinovic just outside the penalty area.

Ferreira received the ball and faked Whitecaps goalkeeper Yohei Takaoka with his right foot before switching to his left to find the center of the net for his team-leading eighth goal of the season.

Dallas (6-3-3, 21 points) captured its second straight win.

The Whitecaps (3-4-5, 14 points) lost for the second consecutive match after an eight-match unbeaten streak in league play. Vancouver is now winless in 14 straight away matches dating back to a 2-0 win in Dallas last June.

The Whitecaps scored first in the 23rd minute as Pedro Vite pounced on a Dallas turnover in its defensive third and booted into the bottom left corner of the net past goalkeeper Maarten Paes.

The play started with Paes trying to pass to defender Edwin Cerrillo, but Cerrillo was unaware of Vite waiting for an error. The Vancouver forward was faster to the ball than Cerrillo and easily beat Paes, who had no chance to make a save.

Ferreira answered for Dallas in the 37th minute. He took a pass from Jader Obrian in the center of the box and steadied the ball with his left foot before getting just enough on a right-footed shot to push it past Takaoka and tie the match.

Ferreira had the only other shot on goal in the first half, unleashing a shot in the 15th minute that was stopped at the bottom left corner by Takaoka.
