Perth Glory draw with Sydney FC on back of Reddy heroics in goal

Perth Glory goalkeeper Liam Reddy pulled off a series of stunning saves to help salvage a 1-1 A-League draw with arch rivals Sydney FC at HBF Park.

The Sky Blues dominated Wednesday night's match for extended stretches, but they were left shell shocked when Glory striker Bruno Fornaroli scored against the run of play in the 43rd minute.

Sydney striker Bobo nailed an equaliser in the 63rd minute, but the champions couldn't find the winner.

"We got a little bit frustrated, because we had a lot of chances to score in the first half, but the keeper made six good saves," Bobo said after the match.

"So in the end a little bit frustrating."

The result means 10th-placed Glory's winless run has stretched to five matches, while sixth-placed Sydney are just two points adrift of fourth spot.

Reddy was like a wall in the first half, pulling off six saves to deny Sydney time and again.

Luke Ivanovic's looping header in the eighth minute was tipped away by Reddy, and the veteran stopper pulled off a sharp reflex save to keep out Bobo's close-range volley.

Ivanovic should have opened the scoring in the 34th minute when Glory's defence was sliced open, but Reddy got down low to save the day again.

Numerous other chances went begging, and Sydney were made to pay dearly when Glory opened the scoring in the 43rd minute totally against the run of play.

Diego Castro pulled off a sharp run into the box before squaring to Fornaroli, who tapped it home at the back post from point-blank range.

The goal was initially ruled out for offside, but VAR overturned the decision on review.

It meant Fornaroli has scored in nine straight games at HBF Park -- a record run for an A-League player at any venue.

Glory received a huge slice of luck in the 57th minute when Sydney had a penalty decision overturned by the VAR.

Referee Alireza Faghani pointed straight to the spot after Glory defender Osama Malik kicked Bobo in the calf when attempting a clearance, but VAR found an offside in the lead-up to the incident.

Reddy pulled off two saves in the space of a minute shortly after to deny two separate Bobo efforts.

But a minute later Bobo struck, unleashing a swivelling volley to finally find a way past Reddy.

Glory substitute Andy Keogh had a goal ruled off for offside in the 80th minute, and a deflected strike from Fornaroli rolled just wide of the upright in the third minute of stoppage time as Perth finally found their groove.
