The Sounders hold on for a point to stay top in the West against the third-place Rapids. (1:52)

Dominique Badji, making his first start since being reacquired by Colorado in late July, opened the scoring in the 66th minute.

The Rapids seemed to have the game in hand until the 81st minute, when Seattle substitute Leo Chu drove the ball down the left wing and sent a low cross into the 6-yard box, where Roldan beat teammate Fredy Montero to the ball and redirected it with his left foot past Colorado goalkeeper William Yarbrough and into the net.

Badji, a 29-year-old from Senegal who returned to the Rapids in a trade with Nashville, scored off a left-wing corner kick from Jack Price. Badji soared over All-Star defender Yeimar Gomez Andrade at the top of the 6-yard box and put a forceful header inside the left post, leaving Seattle goalie Stefan Frei with no chance to make the save.

It was Badji's second goal in 14 appearances this season with the Rapids. He began his pro career with Colorado in 2015 and made 91 appearances for the club, scoring 24 goals with 12 assists. He was traded to FC Dallas in 2018 and joined Nashville ahead of its expansion season.

Yarbrough made three saves for the Rapids but remained tied for second in the league in shutouts with 11, two behind Nashville's Joe Willis. Two of the saves came on shots by Montero in the first half and the other on an attempt by Joao Paulo in the 54th minute.

It was the second 1-1 draw between the teams in Colorado this season, the other coming July 4. The Sounders beat the Rapids 3-0 Oct. 3 in Seattle in a match in which Yarbrough didn't play.
