        Brentford and Hull draw final day clash

        Brentford and Hull shared the Sky Bet Championship spoils in a well contested clash between two sides with nothing to play for.The Bees broke the deadlock after 12 minutes at Griffin Park when the Hull defence failed to deal with a cross from the right and the ball found its way to Sergi Canos, whose glancing header crept inside the far post.But Hull's goal in the 1-1 draw came almost on the stroke of half-time when Jarrod Bowen steered former Bee Jon Toral's headed pass just inside the upright.The visitors squandered a gilt-edged chance to take all three points after the break but Liverpool loanee Harry Wilson saw his well struck penalty saved by Bees keeper Luke Daniels.A much changed Brentford side dominated the opening half in stifling heat and should have put the game out of sight long before the break.Emiliano Marcondes toe poked wide with the goal at his mercy after just seven minutes before Canos made the breakthrough shortly after.Alan Judge tested keeper David Marshall with a dipping swerving drive from 25 yards which the keeper did well to grab at the second attempt, in the 15th minute.The visitors' had to wait until midway through the half for their first attempt on goal, Wilson's long range effort flying high and wide.Lewis Macleod did likewise at the other end, forcing Marshall into a fingertip save beneath the bar just before the half hour.And the young Scot was involved again minutes later when he raced onto a ball into the box and squared for Judge, whose rising drive found the side-netting from close range.Hull's equaliser came against the run of play, but Nigel Adkins' side had done well to keep a foothold in the game and always looked a threat until the final third.After the break Hull pressed higher up the pitch and forced the Bees into a series of unforced errors.But Kamohelo Mokotjo should have put Brentford back in front minutes after the restart but skied Emiliano Marcondes' drilled low cross over the bar when it looked easier to score.Stand-in Brentford keeper Daniels gave the Tigers hope on 57 minutes when his sloppy pass went straight to Fraizer Campbel,l who the keeper then hauled down in the box for a penalty - but there was no yellow card.Marcondes fired a free-kick just wide before Mokotjo's half volley at the far post was parried wide by Marshall as Brentford piled on the pressure.Judge went close with a 30-yard thunderbolt and Marcondes headed a corner inches over as the season finale fizzled out - with Brentford's inability to score coming back to haunt them.

          Birmingham end losing run with rout of sorry Hull

          Birmingham ended their harrowing run of seven successive Championship defeats with a morale-boosting 3-0 home win over Hull to spark off their bid to avoid relegation.It was sweet revenge for the humiliating 6-1 defeat they suffered at the hands of Hull earlier this season and was their first win under new manager Garry Monk.Showing great determination to improve their precarious position, Birmingham were impressive winners as they chalked up their best victory of the season, Jota's first two goals at St Andrew's sandwiching a Che Adams cross which sailed straight in.Birmingham, who remain in the bottom three despite the result, could have recorded an even more clear-cut victory but for the brilliance of goalkeeper Allan McGregor, who defied the home side with a string of excellent saves in the first half.Following their recent impressive form which had taken them nine points clear of the relegation zone, Hull were very disappointing as they were given little scope to excel by a Birmingham side fighting for their lives.Playing in a blizzard, Birmingham were determined to get on the front foot and only a brave save by McGregor, who had to race to the edge of his area, prevented Adams opening his account.Birmingham were not put off by the Baltic conditions as they continued to launch a series of attacks, with Hull's defence often stretched to the limit.They were exposed in the 12th minute when Adams broke clear down the right and produced a perfect low cross which Jota converted at the near post.Birmingham's fans had waited a long time to see Jota get on the scoresheet as this was his first at St Andrew's since his record signing from Brentford last summer, his only previous goals for the club being a double at Sheffield Wednesday last month.Sterling work by skipper Michael Dawson and Ondrej Mazuch kept Hull in the game and Harry Wilson displayed the Tigers' potential danger with a rasping left-footed shot which whistled low past the far post.Hull were again indebted to the skill of McGregor, though, with two saves in quick succession to deny the impressive Adams as the Scotland international emerged as the Tigers' star man.Adams, however, finally enjoyed some success three minutes into the second half. He outpaced Dawson but then ran out of space, turned back on himself and produced a hopeful high lob which, to his own surprise, went over the head of McGregor and into the far top corner of the net.Birmingham were unrecognisable from the team which has struggled badly this season and they completed their belated success when Jota collected a loose ball to fire home the third goal in the 59th minute.

            Hull ease relegation fears at Ipswich

            Hull eased their relegation fears with a convincing 3-0 win at Ipswich with the result virtually condemning the home side to another season in the Championship and dismissing their outside chances of gaining a play-off place.It was the second win on the trot for the Tigers, who are now nine points clear of the drop zone, having beaten the Tractor Boys' arch rivals Norwich at the weekend.It also signalled the fifth home game on the trot for Ipswich where they have failed to score.Goals came from Markus Henriksen, Harry Wilson and Jarrod Bowen.Ipswich full back Jonas Knudsen cut out a dangerous crossfield pass from Wilson to striker Fraizer Campbell in the sixth minute and moments later Ipswich won the first corner of the match which Jordan Spence headed onto the right hand post of Allan McGregor's goal.Wilson then fired in a shot in the 15th minute from just inside the penalty area which was too hot for Ipswich keeper Bartosz Bialkowski to handle and he gathered the ball at the second attempt.Hull took the lead in the 18th minute when Jackson Irvine headed the ball down from inside the penalty area for Henriksen to fire home smartly into Bialkowski's left hand corner of the goal from outside the penalty area.A mis-placed pass by Tristan Nydam in the 28th minute resulted in the ball breaking to Jarrod Bowen, whose shot from outside the penalty area stuck Bialkowski's left-hand post.Then a good move from the home side found Freddie Sears free wide on the right, whose pinpoint cross was headed goalwards by Grant Ward for McGregor to tip over the bar.But Hull extended their lead following a great cross to the far post by Campbell in the 40th minute for Wilson to steer home.And as the half drew to a close, Ipswich manager Mick McCarthy led his team off the pitch to a chorus of boos.Two minutes into the second half the visitors scored their third goal when Bowen danced through the Ipswich defence to slide the ball under Bialkowski.In the 52nd minute, loud cheers resounded round Portman Road as Sears' shot on goal was parried by McGregor.Hull appeared to ease off and sit back as Ipswich came back into the game gaining more ball possession and in the 75th minute a cross from Knudsen fell to Sears just inside the penalty area, whose half volley went narrowly wide of McGregor's' left hand post.But Hull's defence held strong for them to end worth winners.
