Bowery scores brace as Crewe beat Forest Green

Jordan Bowery hit a double as Crewe secured a 3-1 victory over rivals Forest Green.Bowery edged Crewe ahead with a set-piece header just before the break and added to his tally after the break during a three-goal flurry inside five minutes, which saw Charlie Kirk double the Cheshire side's lead, only for Dale Grubb to reduce the arrears.Crewe were good value as they ensured debutant keeper Cameron Belford had a busy night. Harry Pickering thrashed a volley from 20 yards on to the far post. But it was Bowery who made his presence count when he flung himself at Pickering's free kick to head the ball home a minute before half-time.Harry McKirdy should have eased Crewe's passage soon after the restart, but he clipped the ball over the onrushing Belford and the bar after he burst clear on goal.But the loan striker played his part as Kirk seized the ball and drove low into the bottom corner for the second before Bowery struck again in off the post with a sweet angled drive as Crewe scored twice in two minutes.Grubb cut the arrears soon after when he made the most of Dale Bennett's cross and fired in at the far post in the 64th minute.Substitute Alex Bray struck the bar late on, but defeat was Forest Green's third in a row, while victory moved Crewe nine points clear of the drop zone.

Clarke-Harris and Bayliss seal Coventry win at Crewe

Coventry consolidated their position in the play-off places as first-half goals from Jonson Clarke-Harris and Tom Bayliss earned a 2-1 win at lowly Crewe.The Sky Blues needed to show plenty of resolve on a pitch half covered in snow before registering their third win in four to move up to sixth.They were issued an early warning when on-loan Newcastle defender Jamie Sterry fired inches past the post. But it was another loan man, Rotherham's Clarke-Harris who glided clear on the left of the box and his angled drive flew over the line despite the efforts of several Crewe defenders.Sky Blues keeper Liam O'Brien's acrobatically palmed away Shaun Miller's header. But Crewe were level in the 33rd minute when Jordan Bowery was well placed to head home the rebound after O'Brien pushed out Paul Green's blast.Parity was short-lived for the strugglers though as they allowed Bayliss too much room to size up his shot and the midfield curved in off the far post with the outside of his boot.O'Brien was a key figure for Coventry and the keeper tipped over a rising drive from Harry Pickering after the break when Sky Blues substitute Liam Kelly could have eased his side's passage, but after breaking clear in the box he tucked his effort the wrong side of the post.

Charlie Kirk scored a last-gasp equaliser as Crewe salvaged a late 2-2 Sky Bet League Two draw at Stevenage.Dean Bowditch's brace put the hosts two goals to the good on his home debut but a late goals from Perry Ng and Kirk denied Boro their first home win against Crewe since 2014.Bowditch scored after just 14 minutes when he brought down Mark McKee's aerial pass before firing across Ben Garratt.Five minutes after the break Danny Newton raced past his man with Bowditch on hand to double his tally with a fine finish.Down the other end, Newton was in the right place at the right time to clear George Ray's header off the line.Stevenage were made to sweat in the last 10 minutes after Ng blasted a left-footed effort into the top corner from 20 yards out and seven minutes into stoppage time, Kirk headed home Paul Green's cross to steal a point.

Relegation-threatened Crewe lacked quality in the final third as they had to settle for a goalless draw with Yeovil.The stalemate at Gresty Road was only Alex's third draw of the campaign, but came when they least needed it as games involving rivals Chesterfield and Forest Green were rained off, leaving them three points off the bottom two. The Railwaymen called the shots but found Artur Krysiak in fine form before the Yeovil goalkeeper limped off after the break.Krysiak gloved Harry Pickering's deflected 20-yard drive around the post and kept out a fierce shot from Zoumana Bakayogo.Crewe had credible penalty appeals waved away by referee Robert Lewis in the first half after Nathan Smith appeared to handle Paul Green's cross. From the resulting corner Krysiak stood firm by tipping Pickering's effort over.Ryan Seager wasted Yeovil's best chance when he drove wide.After the restart Pickering curled a free-kick onto the bar and Shaun Miller drove an effort way over as Crewe sought the breakthrough in vain.But Francois Zoko issued a warning when he fired across the face of goal in a rare Yeovil attack.

Elliott Hewitt brace inspires Notts County to comeback win against Crewe

Two goals from Notts County midfielder Elliott Hewitt kept the Magpies' promotion push on track as they saw off Crewe 4-1 at Meadow Lane.In front of a bumper crowd of more than 17,000, Notts hoped their partisan support would lead to a blistering start but it was the visitors who took an early lead.A three-on-one counter-attack led to Shaun Miller tapping in at the back post in the eighth minute after Adam Collin had saved a shot from Callum Ainley.County were level seven minutes later when Noor Husin lashed in a stunning drive from 30 yards.Notts pressed hard for a second before half-time and it duly arrived when Jon Stead's low cross into the area was met by Hewitt, whose mishit shot was enough to beat Ben Garratt in the 41st minute.And Kevin Nolan's side moved further ahead 15 minutes into the second half when Hewitt fired in his second following a brilliant move through midfield.And Derby loanee Mason Bennett completed the scoring on his debut when he tapped in Lewis Alessandra's cross in the 90th minute.

Braces from debutant Marc Richards and substitute Timi Elsnik inspired Swindon to come from behind to beat 10-man Crewe 4-3 in a spectacular match at the County Ground.Swindon initially went ahead when Ellis Iandolo's low cross fell to Richards in the box and the former Northampton striker cooly fired home from 12 yards.Crewe equalised when the hosts failed to clear their lines and Callum Ainley hit a low volley across goal into the far corner.The visitors then took the lead before half-time when Ainley glanced Charlie Kirk's pinpoint cross into the bottom right corner for his fifth goal of the season.David Artell's men extended their advantage early in the second half when Reice Charles-Cook parried Jordan Bowery's initial shot and Ryan Wintle ran in to tap the ball into the net from close range.Swindon had a lifeline with 25 minutes to go when Elsnik curled a shot into the top left corner from the edge of the box, before the Derby loanee equalised with a composed low shot into the bottom left corner. The visitors were reduced to 10 men after Zoumana Bakayogo received a second yellow card and with just minutes remaining Matt Taylor's low cross was poked home by Richards at the front post to win it for the home side.

Craig Mackail-Smith grabbed a stoppage-time winner as Wycombe won 3-2 at Crewe amid a frantic finish.Aston Villa youngster Harry McKirdy appeared to have earned Crewe a point with a late equaliser, but the Chairboys substitute made the most of some slack defending to poke the ball home.Veteran striker Chris Porter's early penalty was cancelled out by Paris Cowan-Hall and substitute Nathan Tyson forced home from close range after which Crewe boss Dave Artell was sent to the stands for protesting.The high-flying Chairboys got off to the worst possible start when Nathan McGinley was adjudged to have tripped Charlie Kirk and Porter beat keeper Scott Brown with the sixth minute spot kick.Gareth Ainsworth's side rallied and Luke O'Nien wasted a good chance when keeper Ben Garratt parried the ball to his feet, but the midfielder lifted his effort over.Some sustained Crewe pressure ended with Eddie Nolan's thumping header flying a yard wide of the Chairboys' goal.But the struggling Railwaymen looked resolute in defence with Michael Raynes in excellent form until Adebayo Akinfenwa headed on Joe Jacobsen's free kick and Cowan-Hall rifled a half-volley into the far corner with an hour gone.Then Akinfenwa played a decisive presence in the box again, setting up Tyson for Wycombe's second from close range with eight minutes to go.Crewe substitute McKirdy drove in the rebound after Ryan Wintle's shot was parried by Brown with two minutes remaining, but Mackail Smith poked home deep in stoppage time.
