German sparks Northern Illinois past Western Michigan 75-67
DEKALB, Ill. -- Eugene German scored 21 of his 31 points in the second half and Northern Illinois dominated after intermission to post a 75-67 victory over Western Michigan on Saturday.
German, a sophomore guard, hit 11 of 22 shots from the floor and has scored in double figures in all 27 games this season for the Huskies (12-15, 5-9 Mid-American Conference). German came in with a 20.1 scoring average -- tops in the MAC. Levi Bradley made all nine of his free throws and added 21 points for Northern Illinois, which shot 53 percent from the floor and 82 percent (18 of 22) at the free-throw line.
Thomas Wilder scored 11 of his 20 points in the first half to help the Broncos (15-12, 7-7) forge a 31-27 lead at intermission. Bryce Moore had 15 points, hitting 3 of 6 from 3-point range while the rest of the Broncos connected on just 3 of 14 from distance.
German scored eight in a 10-0 run and the Huskies led 46-41 with 10:21 left in the game. Western Michigan battled back to take a 49-48 lead on two free throws by Michael Flowers with 7:43 left, but German answered with two baskets in a 6-0 spurt and the Huskies never trailed again.
