CSU Fullerton needs 5 OTs to get past Cal Poly, 105-101

FULLERTON, Calif. -- Brandon Kamga scored five points in less than a minute as Cal State Fullerton took control in the fourth overtime period to pull out a 105-101 victory over Cal Poly on Saturday night.

In two regular season games, the teams now have played five extra periods. Cal Poly beat CSU Fullerton 101-100 in overtime in the first meeting.

Austen Awosika hit two free throws with :27 left to pull CSU Fullerton even at 65-65 and Cal Poly's Junior Ballard missed a layup with a second left to force the first overtime. Ballard made two free throws with 1:07 left in the first overtime to pull Cal Poly even at 73-73 and in the second extra period Colby Rogers hit a 3 with 1:19 left to again pull the Mustangs even at 80-80.

Nolan Taylor made a pair of free throws with :11 left go pull Cal Poly even at 90-90 in the third overtime.

In the final extra period, Kamga hit a jumper with 3:17 left and followed it with a layup that he turned into a three-point play to give CSU Fullerton a 98-93 lead with 2:43 to play. Kamga and Tory San Antonio each made two free throws in the closing seconds to hold off the Mustangs.

Kamga finished with 27 points and seven rebounds to lead the Titans (10-16, 5-6 Big West). Devon Clare finished with 21 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Awosika added 17 points, six rebounds and eight assists and Jack Rowe contributed 15 points and 17 rebounds.

Taylor scored 35 points and grabbed nine rebounds off the bench to lead Cal Poly (7-18, 4-7). Ballard finished with 27 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two steals. Jamal Smith scored 11 points, grabbed seven boards and dished five assists and Keith Smith had 10 points, six boards and three assists.

CSU Fullerton hosts UC Santa Barbara Thursday. Cal Poly hosts UC Davis Thursday.
