Hyun-Jin Ryu has officially been charged with 7 earned runs in 4 1/3 innings. Entering tonight, he had allowed 7 earned runs in 77 2/3 innings at Dodger Stadium.

Hyun-Jin Ryu intentionally walked Gary Sanchez to load the bases and face the left-handed-hitting Didi Gregorious. It seemed like a sound strategy, until Gregorious smacked a first-pitch, down-the-middle, 90-mph fastball out for a grand slam. Ryu threw two more pitches, allowed a double, and exited. This was his shortest start since June 28.

One thing I could see being a problem for the Dodgers if these two teams meet in the World Series: Both lineups do a good job of working deep counts and getting opposing starters out of the game early, which means bullpens will play a big factor. Yankees have the advantage there.

Hyun-Jin Ryu has given up multiple home runs for only the fourth time in 24 starts this season. The second came off the bat of Gary Sanchez, this one off a cutter.

Hyun-Jin Ryu, a master with his location, left a changeup a tad too high and Aaron Judge punished him with a 414-foot solo home run.

The Yankees put runners on second and third with none out, but Hyun-Jin Ryu wiggled away unharmed, retiring the bottom of the lineup in order. Ryu has a 3.12 ERA with runners in scoring position. Second-best is Max Scherzer — 6.46.

The Dodgers enter this series with a two-game lead on the Yankees for the game's best record, but Dave Roberts doesn't sound too interested in pursuing thy distinction. He called it "a benefit," but "not at the expense of health and managing workload."

The Yankees and Dodgers are meeting for the first time in nearly three years. They have faced each other in 11 World Series, but this marks the first ever regular-season meeting when both teams sport their respective league's best record. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said it's "fantastic for baseball. For our players. For the fans. You've got generations talking about these franchises, you've got the current caché of players and their brands and the talent that we have on the field this series. It's going to be a lot of fun."

Every player in the Dodgers' lineup tonight will probably start playoff games this year. Order is AJ Pollock, Justin Turner, Will Smith, Cody Bellinger, Max Muncy, Chris Taylor, Corey Seager, Kiké Hernandez, Hyun-Jin Ryu.

Linda Goldbloom, mother of 3 & grandmother of 7, would have turned 80 Thu., but died last 8/29 after a foul behind the plate — just over safety netting, into the Dodger Stadium loge — struck her head on 8/25. L.A. debuted heightened netting this week & plans other extensions. Goldbloom's husband Erwin told ESPN's Outside the Lines he's pleased the tragedy is contributing to more protection & players' peace of mind on foul balls. "I also hope that by the beginning of next season, all MLB teams and other level teams will have taken steps to increase fan safety." He said a memorial to be unveiled next month at a cemetery about 10 miles from the ballpark will say: "Loving wife, mother, bubbe and friend. Her life that touched many will live forever." (Note: "bubbe" is Yiddish for grandmother)

Dave Roberts, asked about Joe Kelly's recent emergence: "It's good to have options, but right now, Kenley's our closer. I still think Kenley is trending in a positive direction, regardless of this outcome."

Muncy wins it with walk-off homer in 10th (0:37)

Alden Gonzalez ESPN Staff Writer

Max Muncy sent everyone home. His towering home run to center field gave the Dodgers their 11th walk-off victory this season. They are 50-16 at home.

Kenley Jansen yelled into his glove while the final out was being recorded. He returned to the dugout to a noticeable chorus of boos.

Alden Gonzalez ESPN Staff Writer

Nine of Kenley Jansen's first 11 pitches in this ninth inning were cutters. The ninth was deposited into the right-field bleachers for a game-tying home run by Rowdy Tellez. It is Jansen's sixth blown save this season.

Smith wills his homer to stay fair (0:29)
