Johnson's double-double powers Wolves past Capitanes in chippy win

The Iowa Wolves defeated the Mexico City Capitanes 113-104 on Tuesday night in a foul-marred contest at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. The game featured seven technical fouls and 53 fouls overall as Iowa overcame an early 15-point deficit to secure its third straight victory.

Alize Johnson led the Wolves (10-6) with 26 points and 12 rebounds. Jules Bernard contributed 23 points, seven assists and six rebounds. The Wolves received double-doubles from Enrique Freeman (17 points and 14 rebounds) and Rocco Zikarsky (17 points and 11 boards). Jalen Crutcher scored all 12 of his points in the final period, while Donte Ingram added 10 points off the bench.

The Capitanes (12-5) were paced by reserve Wade Taylor IV, who scored 21 points and dished out five assists. Boo Buie had 16 points and seven rebounds and Ahmad Caver added 13 points. Andersson Garcia recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. RJ Melendez added 12 points and eight rebounds before being ejected in the fourth quarter.

The game was a struggle offensively for both teams on 3-pointers, with Iowa shooting 18% and Mexico City hitting 22%. Despite trailing by as many as 15 in the second quarter, Iowa clawed back to make it a one-point game at halftime. The Wolves used a 37-27 fourth-quarter advantage to pull away.
