Jones Garcia scores 25 as Spurs top Suns
The Austin Spurs defeated the Valley Suns 116-107 on Tuesday night at Mullett Arena Tempe in Arizona. Five Austin players scored in double figures.
David Jones Garcia paced the Spurs (9-5) with a game-high 25 points, six rebounds and three assists. Donovan Williams and Stanley Umude each contributed 20 points. Umude was effective from long range, hitting four of his 10 3-point attempts. He also pulled down seven rebounds. Center James Banks III recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds, while Harrison Ingram finished with nine points, a team-high 12 rebounds and five assists. Kyle Mangas provided a spark off the bench, scoring 13 points on an efficient 5-for-8 shooting, including three 3-pointers.
The Suns (5-10) were led by forward CJ Huntley, who posted a double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Koby Brea added 19 points and seven rebounds, connecting on four 3-pointers. Damion Baugh had 16 points, eight rebounds and a team-high six assists before fouling out. JaQuori McLaughlin scored 15 points to go with five assists, and Jaden Shackelford chipped in 12 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Tyrese Samuel also reached double figures with 10 points in 19 minutes.
Austin took a 25-20 lead after the first quarter and ended the half with a 51-46 advantage. The Spurs extended their lead to 81-74 after three quarters. In a high-scoring final period, Austin outscored Valley 35-33 to secure the nine-point victory.
