WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- The New York Knicks look to move into first place in the Atlantic Division tonight when they visit the Washington Wizards.
This is the third meeting of the season between the teams. The Wizards embarrassed the Knicks, 95-83 at Madison Square Garden on December 18. New York gained revenge 12 nights later with an 89-86 triumph in Washington. The Knicks have won 14 of the last 18 road matchups against Washington. New York won for the fourth time in its last five games Monday, as Allan Houston scored 27 points and Latrell Sprewell added 24 in a a 112-106 over the Seattle SuperSonics. Houston has led the Knicks in points, rebounds, and assists the last two games. Since winning four in a row on the road, the Knicks have dropped four of the last five away from home and own a 10-11 road record. After surprising the Eastern Conference-leading Indiana Pacers last Friday, Washington continued its losing ways the next night, suffering a 111-93 defeat to the Atlantic Hawks. The Wizards stopped a five-game losing streak Friday with a 123-113 win over Indiana. It was their first win since Michael Jordan took over as head of basketball operations. However, Washington has lost nine of its last 11.
