KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Kansas City Chiefs will operate normally for Saturday’s playoff game at New England -- and beyond that if they beat the Patriots and advance to the AFC championship game -- even though offensive coordinator Doug Pederson appears poised to become the next head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles.

Pederson would continue coaching for the Chiefs until their season is over, whether it ends with a playoff loss or a Super Bowl victory. Pederson indicated this week he wouldn’t be distracted by his dealings with the Eagles.

He interviewed with the Eagles on Sunday, a day after the Chiefs beat the Houston Texans in their first-round playoff game.

“It’s an honor, obviously, to be in the running with something like that,’’ Pederson said this week. “But I was also sitting there towards the end of the interview going ‘I’ve got the New England Patriots to look at.’ So it was a lot easier to come back and start game planning.”

Chiefs coach Andy Reid calls the offensive plays, though he occasionally delegates to Pederson.

“Doug’s so focused in on this right now,’’ Reid said. “That’s where his vision is. It was a great opportunity, I thought, for him to visit with a great organization, a phenomenal organization. And I think it was an honor for him to have that opportunity.

“Whatever happens, happens. That’s not my business. But I’m happy that he had that opportunity to speak with [Eagles owner Jeff Lurie].”
