Notre Dame lands Brandon Wimbush

Notre Dame has gained a commitment from ESPN 300 quarterback Brandon Wimbush, who tweeted that he has decommited from Penn State in order to join the Fighting Irish.

Wimbush, an Elite 11 quarterback and the No. 71 overall prospect in the 2015 class, also became the third former Big Ten commit to ultimately choose Notre Dame. He announced his change of heart in a tweet Tuesday.

Fighting Irish coach Brian Kelly also was able to land linebacker Josh Barajas, previously committed to Penn State as well, and former Michigan defensive back commit Shaun Crawford in this class.

With uncertainty swirling at Michigan because of its poor season, Notre Dame is also targeting two of the Wolverines' current commitments.

ESPN 300 linebacker Darrin Kirkland Jr. took a visit to Notre Dame for the game against Stanford, the same game during which Wimbush visited. Tyree Kinnel, an ESPN 300 defensive back, was offered by Notre Dame in September and said he has been in contact with the staff, as well.

Both Kirkland Jr. and Kinnel are still committed to Michigan, but both are concerned about what will happen with the current coaches.

Wimbush's commitment gives Notre Dame six ESPN 300 commitments, 17 commits overall, and the class is currently ranked No. 16 in the country.
