Elite 11 finals Day 2 notes

REDONDO BEACH, Calif. -- So much is made of the time commitment necessary to become a quarterback capable of playing college football. Between practice, workouts, summer throwing sessions, film study, private tutoring and staying on top of academics, it leaves little time for anything else.

But Purdue quarterback commit Danny Etling (Terre Haute, Ind./South Vigo) didn't just find extra time, he made the most of it. Not only will Etling be able to add "Big Ten quarterback" to his résumé in 2013, it will be positioned next to an equally impressive feat -- Eagle Scout.

Etling doesn't easily accept praise for the time and effort it required to accomplish. For him, it was simply a part of growing up.
