India at CWG 2022 Day 5 as it happened: India win gold in lawn bowls and table tennis

India have added two gold medals on Wednesday. The lawn bowls women's fours team beat South Africa 17-10 to collect country's first CWG gold in the sport.

Nayanmoni Saikia, Pinki, Lovely Choubey and Rupa Rani Tirkey showed continued their good form in the tournament and overcame a tough team in the final.

The Indian men's table tennis team defended their gold medal, beating Singapore 3-1 in the final on Tuesday.

In badminton, defending champions India claim silver after losing to Malaysia in the mixed team badminton final.

Vikas Thakur became the eighth weightlifter to medal at the 2022 CWG as he won the silver medal in the men's 96kg in Birmingham.

Murali Sreeshankar topped the men's long jump qualification round to storm into the finals along with Muhammed Anees Yahiya, who qualified as eighth best.

The 23-year-old Sreeshankar, a gold medal contender, was the lone athlete to breach the automatic qualification mark of 8m, with an opening round effort of 8.05m.

India's women's hockey team suffered a 1-3 loss against England in their pool game. They will have to beat Canada in their final match to qualify for the semifinals.
