Astros' Jose Urquidy lasts 3⅓ innings in return from IL

The Houston Astros activated Jose Urquidy from the 60-day injured list Sunday, but the right-hander made it only 3⅓ innings in a start against the New York Yankees, an eventual 9-7 win that earned his club a 2-2 series split.

The 28-year-old Urquidy exited with the bases loaded in the fourth inning and a 5-2 lead after allowing consecutive walks and an RBI single to Harrison Bader.

Phil Maton relieved Urquidy. Maton gave up the lead by allowing three runs to score on a hit by pitch and a pair of walks before being replaced with the game tied at 5.

Urquidy finished with five earned runs allowed on three hits and three walks while striking out one over 62 pitches.

To make room for Urquidy, left-hander Parker Mushinski was optioned to Triple-A Sugar Land and right-hander Spenser Watkins was designated for assignment.

Urquidy was making his first big league appearance since he left an April 30 start against the Philadelphia Phillies because of inflammation in his pitching shoulder. He went 0-1 with a 4.50 ERA in four minor league rehab starts, striking out 11 in 14 innings.

Urquidy is now 2-2 with a 6.10 ERA this season. J.P. France (8-3) earned the win in relief, allowing no runs in 3⅓ innings of work.
