NEW YORK -- Hofstra has fired men's basketball coach Mo Cassara, the school announced Friday.
"We are very thankful to Mo Cassara for his hard work and dedication to the Hofstra basketball program over the last three years," said Hofstra athletic director Jeff Hathaway in a statement. "Mo is a tireless worker and has tremendous passion for the game and the students that he coached. I personally want to thank him for his commitment to Hofstra athletics and the university community during his tenure. We wish him the very best."
Hofstra went 21-12 in Cassara's first season at the helm in 2010-11, with future NBA player Charles Jenkins on the roster. But the Pride finished 10-22 last season and 7-25 this year. In December, four players, including two starters, were dismissed from the team following their arrests related to burglaries on campus.
"I would like to express how much I have valued and enjoyed the opportunity to be the head basketball coach at Hofstra University," Cassara said in a statement. "I wish nothing but success to the athletic department, basketball program and supporters of the Hofstra Pride."
Assistant coach Patrick Sellers takes over on an interim basis. The search for a new head coach will begin immediately.
