Raynard sets NC A&T's single-season passing mark; tops NSU

NORFOLK, Va. -- Lamar Raynard threw for 277 yards to break North Carolina A&T's single-season record, and the undefeated Aggies beat Norfolk State 35-7 on Saturday.

Raynard has passed for 2,302 career yards, topping Maseo Bolin's mark of 2,262 in 1995. NC A&T coach Rod Broadway broke a tie with Hornsby Howell and Bert Piggott for the second-most wins in program history with 56, trailing Bill Hayes' 106.

Raynard also ran for two 1-yard touchdowns for NC A&T (9-0, 6-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference), which won its ninth game for the fourth straight season. Marquell Cartwright and Jamari Smith also scored on 1-yard runs.

NC A&T scored the first 14 points before NSU ended a 14-quarter touchdown drought in the series with Isaiah Winstead's 8-yard scoring grab. The Aggies had kept the Spartans touchdown-less in 2014, '15 and '16.

Juwan Carter was 14-for-32 passing with one touchdown and two interceptions for Norfolk State (3-6, 3-3), which lost its fifth straight in the series.
