Smith leads Campbell in 17-7 win over Dayton

DAYTON, Ohio -- Daniel Smith threw for two touchdowns and rushed for 169 yards to lead Campbell in a 17-7 win over Dayton on Saturday.

The redshirt freshman had 212 yards passing for the Camels (5-2, 4-0 Pioneer League). Combined with the yardage from his 17 carries, Smith accounted for 381 of Campbell's 430 total yards. Smith rushed for a career-high 179 yards and two scores in Campbell's 49-21 win at Stetson on Sept. 23.

After a scoreless first half, Smith threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Aaron Blockmon and the Camels were up 7-0 with 12:38 to go in the third quarter.

Dayton's Alex Kenner evened it up on a 1-yard touchdown run with 6:09 left in the third but the Flyers (2-5, 1-3) could not score again. Gerald Wilkes Jr. put an end to their comeback hopes with an interception with 2:18 left in the game.

Alex Jeske threw for 228 yards for the Flyers and was intercepted twice.
