Wilkins scores with 2 seconds left, Richmond tops St Francis
LORETTO, Pa. -- Tyler Wilkins caught a pass in the corner of the end zone with two seconds left, giving Richmond a 35-27 victory over Saint Francis of Pennsylvania on Thursday night.
The game was played early and moved to DeGol Field due to Hurricane Florence. It's the second straight year the Spiders had a game moved due to a hurricane.
Zach Campbell caught a 12-yard touchdown pass to give Saint Francis a 27-23 lead with 1:10 left Richmond marched down the field, aided by a pass interference penalty, and had first-and-goal with seven seconds remaining. After Wilkins' 6-yard TD grab, Saint Francis fumbled on the kickoff and Maurice Jackson returned it for a score.
Kevin Johnson completed 22 of 29 passes for 249 yards and two touchdowns for Richmond (2-1).
Cortrelle Simpson was left wide open down the right sideline for a 40-yard touchdown and the Spiders converted a long 2-point conversion for a 23-20 lead with 6:42 remaining.
Saint Francis (1-2) outscored Richmond 17-3 in the third quarter to take a 20-12 lead. Bear Fenimore connected with Kamron Lewis for a 15-yard TD and a 2-yarder in the frame.
