Hines' 3 TDs lead Duquesne past Valpo 23-21
PITTSBURGH -- A.J. Hines rushed for 137 yards and his third touchdown, with 2:42 to play, gave Duquesne a 23-21 victory over Valparaiso on Saturday.
Hines' 1-yard touchdown run capped an 11-play, 74-yard drive that chewed up four minutes late in the fourth quarter. Hines carried it six times for 44 yards on the drive. Daniel Parr converted two third downs, one on a 20-yard pass to Dominic Thieman that put the Dukes into Crusader territory, and the other an 8-yard run on third-and-7 before Hines covered the final 24 yards on four attempts.
Valparaiso picked up one first down before Daquan Worley and Mike O'Malley had sacks followed by two incompletions that sealed the win.
Hines, who had a career-high 31 carries, also had scoring runs of 4 and 2 yards. Parr finished 17 for 25 for 235 yards with an interception. The Dukes (2-1) had 413 yards of total offense.
Chris Duncan was 15 of 26 for 229 yards and a touchdown for the Crusaders (0-1) and Kyle Cartales had a pair of 1-yard TD runs.
