Texas Southern gets first SWAC win, 42-14 over MVSU

HOUSTON -- Devin Williams threw for two touchdowns, the Tigers scored twice on fumble returns and Texas Southern beat Mississippi Valley State 42-14 on Saturday for its first Southwestern Athletic Conference win of the season.

Tylor Cook scored on a 1-yard run on the Tigers' opening drive and Williams' 22-yard TD pass to Bobby Hartzog capped the second drive. Sean Jones forced Dejerric Bryant to fumble on MVSU's next possession and Patrick Howell picked up the ball and ran 80 yards for the score.

The Tigers (2-6, 1-4) led 21-0 at halftime after holding the Delta Devils to three first downs and 100 total yards, and 28-7 after Williams' 26-yard TD pass to Hartzog in the third quarter.

Brad Woodward scored on a 69-yard run that was setup by Marquel Daigle's interception, and Tarrol Stafford recovered Bryant's fumble during a sack in the end zone.

Bryant scored on a 1-yard run and hit Booker Chambers on a 24-yard TD pass for MVSU (1-6, 1-3).
