Bayo bags Dons the points

Adebayo Akinfenwa completed a dream week for AFC Wimbledon as he scored the only goal of the game to sink Morecambe.Akinfenwa has been struggling for goals at the start of the campaign but he followed up his brace against Burton in midweek by scoring again for the Dons.He netted against Morecambe after 27 minutes - the giant striker heading home an Alan Bennett cross from six yards out.It was a deserved lead for the Dons who were keeping former Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Barry Roche on his toes in the Shrimps net.Wimbledon pressed high and limited the visitors to few notable chances; Paul Mullin's shot was well blocked by the experienced Adam Barrett, as the striker looked to celebrate signing a new three-year contract this week. The majority of the first half was played out in Morecambe territory, although the home side were sloppy in their finishing.Morecambe's best chance of the first half came in the 42nd minute. A well-struck Ryan Williams free-kick from 25 yards out was pushed over the crossbar by Dons' goalkeeper James Shea.Akinfenwa could have doubled his tally after the break was it not for an impressive diving save from Roche after the bulky former Swansea forward shot powerfully on the turn.Former Arsenal youth goalkeeper Shea's reflexes were called upon when Mullin fired in a rising drive as August manager of the month winner Jim Bentley saw his side pile on the pressure.Less than a minute later, it was Mullin again who had a chance to equalise but he squandered the effort from four yards out.
