- Kal Naismith - 13'
Naismith the hero for Stanley
Kal Naismith scored the only goal as Accrington saw off a wasteful Plymouth. The Pilgrims only had themselves to blame for making the long trip home without a point having wasted countless chances.Plymouth should have opened the scoring early on with a cross from Lewis Alessandra to Marvin Morgan but, with a free header, the striker failed to find the target. Then debutant goalkeeper Aaron Chapman, on loan from Chesterfield, produced a tremendous save to push away Argyle's debutant Bobby Reid's fierce blast.Stanley took the lead in the 13th minute when Josh Windass found Naismith to the right of the area and he stroked the ball home - although Luke McCormick will be disappointed he failed to hold onto what was a weak shot. From this point on it was all Plymouth. Curtis Nelson sent a free header over while Carl McHugh also nodded over from a corner.Winger Allesandra could only find the side netting with the final action of the first half while Chapman denied Dominic Blizzard with his legs after the re-start.Plymouth substitute Deane Smalley had a header cleared off the line while, in a rare foray into Plymouth's half, John O'Sullivan had an effort saved by McCormick in the final 10 minutes. With four minutes to go, Kelvin Mellor's run and shot ended with Nicky Hunt hacking the ball off the line as Stanley's goal led a charmed life - but they held on for their fourth win in five games.
