Collins brace beats Boro
James Collins fired in his second goal of the game late on as promotion contenders Shrewsbury beat Stevenage 3-2 in a Greenhous Meadow thriller.Four of the five goals came in the first half but Collins' second of the game prevented the visitors from becoming just the third team to take a point off the Shrews in Shropshire.Stevenage, with five wins and a draw from their previous six games, took the lead in the 10th minute.Tom Pett's pass picked out Adam Marriott and the striker broke into the box before crashing an angled shot from 15 yards in to the top corner of the net.But Shrewsbury hit back and scored twice inside three minutes to move ahead. Collins cut inside a defender and rolled his 13th goal of the season in to the bottom corner of the net after being set up by strike partner Andy Mangan in the 22nd minute. Then Collins was hacked down by Dean Wells for a penalty coolly converted by Liam Lawrence.Collins had the chance to increase the home side's lead when he was sent clean through by Bobby Grant, but Stevenage keeper Chris Day saved and 60 seconds later the visitors were level.Defender Wells made a late run into the box and volleyed in a corner played to him by Dean Parrett in the 42nd minute to leave the honours even at the break. There were chances at either end in an open second half, Day making fine stops from Collins and Lawrence, while Wells headed just over for Stevenage. But Shrewsbury kept going and claimed maximum points two minutes from time. Mickey Demetriou slipped a pass through to top scorer Collins and the striker kept his cool to drill home a low shot to lift Shrewsbury up to second place in the Sky Bet League Two table.
