Gornell grabs glory for Stanley

Terry Gornell was the Accrington hero as he scored a late winner to secure a much-needed 1-0 win against Oxford.Gornell, in his third spell with the Reds after signing on deadline day, hooked the ball over his shoulder with 90 minutes on the clock after Kal Naismith's cross was not properly cleared. It was what Stanley needed as they had lost their previous five games and in the build up to Tuesday night boss John Coleman had called this the biggest game of his managerial career. It was a deserved win for Accrington who had been denied by the woodwork twice before Gornell scored.Defender Adam Buxton belted a 25-yard effort against the top of the crossbar in the first half. Then, three minutes after half-time, former Real Madrid youngster Gerardo Bruna raced through and rifled a strike against a post.Oxford offered little in attack until the 75th minute when substitute James Roberts scuffed over a Patrick Hoban cross from five yards out with the goal at his mercy.
