Milton off the mark
Russell Milton celebrated his first win as Cheltenham manager after an own goal and a Troy Brown header secured a 2-0 win against Tranmere at Whaddon Road. The Robins' first victory in nine matches and their first clean sheet in 27 games moved them out of the Sky Bet League Two relegation zone. The opening seventh-minute goal had a huge slice of fortune when Shaun Harrad, one of three midweek loan signings, fired a low cross from the right towards Eliot Richards and the ball smashed into Rovers right-back Danny Holmes and into the net.Centre-back Brown added a second goal on the hour, rising unmarked at the far post to head home a Matt Richards free-kick into the corner.Rovers' Owain Fon Williams was the busier goalkeeper, saving efforts from Matt Richards, Harrad and Eliot Richards while Wes Burns fired off target. But the Robins also survived three big let-offs. Keeper Trevor Carson blocked a close-range strike from former Robin Kayode Odejayi after just four minutes and defenders Matt Taylor and Lee Vaughan produced goal-line clearances to deny debutant Jordan Hugill and Jennison Myrie-Williams respectively in the second period.
