SC Paderborn 07 1-1 SC Freiburg
Elias Kachunga snatched a late yet deserved equaliser as Paderborn and Freiburg played out a 1-1 draw in east Westphalia.Vladimir Darida gave the visitors the lead from the penalty spot in the 18th minute, but their attempts to defend their lead for the remainder of the game were denied in the dying seconds when Kachunga struck. His goal keeps Paderborn in mid-table and still at a safe enough distance from the relegation zone.Freiburg were still reeling from a heavy 4-1 defeat at home to Stuttgart last weekend which their coach Christian Streich said had come as a shock to the system when they were just starting to pick up points.A helping hand in Paderborn was therefore more than welcome, and they got it in the 18th minute when Uwe Hunemeier fouled Felix Klaus as he entered the area, and a penalty was given.Darida stepped up to the spot and, with the first shot on goal of the game, sent Lukas Kruse the wrong way to put Paderborn ahead.Marvin Bakalorz's shot from 25 yards was Paderborn's reply, but their first effort of the game on goal was taken easily by Roman Burki. It did give the east Westphalians a bit more belief, though, having largely been frustrated by Freiburg's defensive tactics.Early in the second half, Jens Wemmer wasted a great chance to level with Burki in fine fettle to deny him and then Kachunga. In fact, Burki saved everything which came his way as Freiburg tried desperately to hold on to their lead.Stefan Kutschke was sent on by Paderborn coach Andre Breitenreiter, who threw caution to the wind with an even more attack-minded system. The gamble paid off in the last minute when Burki was finally beaten by Kachunga, who then stroked his shot into the unguarded goal to earn his side a point.ends
