- Salomon Kalou - 35'
Hertha Berlin 1-0 VfL Wolfsburg
Salomon Kalou scored his first Bundesliga goal to earn Hertha Berlin a 1-0 win over Wolfsburg at the Olympiastadion on Wednesday evening. The former Chelsea player, making his first start for the Old Lady, scored the only goal of the game in the 35th minute as Hertha picked up their first win of the season.Wolfsburg looked a shadow of the side which had beaten Bayer Leverkusen 4-1 on Saturday as they missed the chance to climb the table, instead losing ground on the leading sides.Hertha started as they meant to go on with some good attacking play, but the first big chance of the game came at the other end where Vieirinha was denied by an alert Thomas Kraft in the Hertha goal.Four minutes after that scare, Ricardo Rodriguez lost possession on the Berlin left and Marcel Ndjeng sent in a cross for Kalou, who headed in his first goal for the club from close range. The celebrations were almost cut short by Kevin De Bruyne, but he was denied twice by Kraft between the Hertha posts.Hertha soon took to defending their lead, but then Wolfsburg hardly put their back line to the test.A wayward shot from Nicklas Bendtner, still searching for his first goal in the Bundesliga, was the nearest they came to finding an equaliser. The Wolves looked apathetic at times, almost expecting a goal to come without any real effort. In the end, they could have lost more convincingly with Kalou denied in a one on one by Diego Benaglio, but his earlier goal was still enough for all three points.ends
