Gunn fires Elgin to victory
Craig Gunn helped Elgin to a perfect League Two start as they came through a tightly-contested battle to beat East Fife 1-0 at Borough Briggs. The 27-year-old striker kept his cool when he got his chance in a game of few opportunities, placing his shot into the bottom-right corner 19 minutes from time. It proved the key moment of a tense encounter that looked to be heading for a draw. The sides cancelled each other out for the majority of the match. Elgin goalkeeper Michael Fraser parried away a right-footed effort by Jon McShane just short of the half-hour mark, and Steven Campbell was off target from a good headed chance with the goalkeeper scrambling.Fraser also kept his concentration expertly after his side took the lead, reacting quickly to tip over Nathan Austin's header and seal all three points for City.
