McLaughlin leaves it late for Ayr
A late brace from Scott McLaughlin allowed Ayr to maintain their place at the top of the League One table as they claimed a 2-0 win over Forfar. After a lively opening, the game seemed to be heading for a draw before McLaughlin struck twice in the final five minutes to give the leaders a dramatic victory. The teams traded blows early on, with Dale Hilson and Jon-Paul McGovern going close but both goalkeepers were in good form as the deadlock remained steadfast. The pressure grew in the second half and midfielder McLaughlin was on hand to fire home the opener from outside the area into the bottom corner in the 85th minute.Any hopes of a comeback were dispelled when Alan Forrest was felled in the area to give McLaughlin the chance to coolly slot home and take the three points.
