- Martin Canning - 6'
Canning wins it for Accies
An early goal from Martin Canning was enough to earn back-to-back wins for Hamilton, as they edged a close Scottish Premiership encounter at Global Energy Stadium.Canning struck with a close-range header from a set-piece in the sixth minute after County made a promising start to the match.County were well in the match and they passed up three glorious chances to get back on level terms with Martin Woods, Joe Cardle and Paul Quinn all missing the target. The hosts started on the front foot but despite their early pressure it was Accies who went ahead in the sixth minute after they forced the first corner of the match.Ali Crawford swung the ball over and Canning rose highest to head home from six yards for what proved to be the decisive breakthrough.Crawford's goalbound shot was touched behind by County goalkeeper Antonio Reguero for another corner. This time Richard Brittain booted Crawford's corner kick clear. At the other end Canning was booked for a wild lunge at Michael Gardyne and from the resultant free kick Woods' effort was brilliantly touched away by McGovern at his near post.Woods should have done better in the 20th minute when he and Jamie Reckord played a neat one-two and Cardle crossed for his team-mate - who blasted over from seven yards.County continued to threaten and Cardle cut inside and let fly from 25 yards - but his shot flew over McGovern's crossbar. The visitors got on the end of a Crawford corner in the 36th minute but his trundler ended up a yard wide of Reguero's left hand post.Accies had a chance at the start of the second half when Imrie got to the byline and his cutback was pounced on by Anthony Andreu - but the shot was blocked by Jackson Irvine. The visitors looked a threat every time they went into attack and Crawford was not far away, before Imrie let fly with another long-range effort seven minutes later - this time Regeuro saved at the second attempt before Mickael Antoine-Curier could take advantage. The home side were dominant at this stage and they squandered a great chance to level the match in the 73rd minute when substitute Graham Carey set up Cardle with an opening - but the midfielder shot wildly over from 10 yards.County were throwing everything forward and Arquin was not far away with a header from a Brittain delivery. In a rare attack Accies sub Louis Longridge raced in on goal but Reguero won the race for the ball before Steven Saunders cleared. In the final minute Jake Jervis got on the end of a Brittain cross but his header was easily held by McGovern - then right at the end Quinn blasted over when it looked easier to score.
