Bishop the king as Wrexham progress
Andy Bishop was the star of the show with two goals as Wrexham secured a safe passage through to the FA Cup third round after disposing of Maidstone 3-1.The Dragons looked to be cruising to the win when Aaron Simpson was sent off, allowing Bishop the chance to add to Manny Smith's opener from the spot. But Alex Flisher responded for United before Bishop's second made the game safe late on.Mark Carrington drew a fine early save from Maidstone goalkeeper Lee Worgan with Connor Jennings heading agonisingly wide of the far post soon after.Worgan's fingertip save then denied Wes York and Wrexham stopper Jon Flatt was alert too when Jay May tested him after 16 minutes.Smith forced the ball home from a 19th-minute corner to give Wrexham the lead, but Maidstone almost equalised when Flatt saved from Jack Parkinson.Ross White's header drifted wide of the United upright just before the break and Bishop lifted the ball inches over the crossbar immediately after the restart.Flatt thwarted Flisher with a fine one-handed stop but Simpson saw red for hauling down York with Bishop slotting in the resulting 57th minute penalty.Maidstone pulled a goal back when Flisher connected with James Rogers cross six minutes later. But Bishop secured Wrexham's passage three minutes from time.
